About the show

West Texas Talk brings you news, local stories, and conversations with the people who make West Texas home. Hosted by Mary Hernandez and Laura Hart, the show is rooted in Lubbock and dedicated to communities across the South Plains, Panhandle, Permian Basin, and beyond.

From neighbors and local businesses to farmers, ranchers, and families, we explore the issues shaping our region and celebrate the communities building its future. It is a place to listen, share experiences, and understand the people and places around us.

Our communities. Our stories. Our voice.

Mary Hernandez

CO-HOST / COMMUNITY & PUBLIC SERVICE

Mary Hernandez

A lifelong West Texan, Mary was born in Cochran County, raised in Floyd County, and moved to Lubbock in 1988. She served the community for 25 years with the Lubbock Police Department before retiring from law enforcement.

Her campaigns for local office in 2024 and 2026 gave her an even deeper view of the concerns shared across Lubbock County. Those conversations strengthened her belief that progress starts by listening carefully and treating every voice as one that matters.

For Mary, public service means showing up and working alongside neighbors. She remains committed to strengthening the community where she and her husband raised their child and where their grandchildren are now growing up.

Laura Hart

CO-HOST / AGRICULTURE & RURAL TEXAS

Laura Hart

Laura is a West Texas farmer, grassroots activist, and community advocate with deep roots in the Panhandle and South Plains. She and her husband, Vic, have been married for more than four decades and are proud parents of three and grandparents of eleven.

As founder of The West Texas Conservative, she helps voters understand public policy, government accountability, private property rights, agriculture, and water policy. Her work equips citizens to participate with confidence in the decisions shaping rural Texas.

Laura brings a lifetime of agricultural experience to every conversation and a practical view of the challenges facing farmers, ranchers, and rural communities. Her guiding belief is simple: an informed voter is a powerful voter.
